Namor The Submariner fans (myself included) have something to look forward to in 2007 .
The marketing team over at Marvel released a cover featuring Namor. The only comments made with this release were that Michael Turner was doing covers AND that Namor would have his own title!
They announced that this was one of the spin-offs from the Civil War.
No mention yet on whether this will be a mini-series or a permanant title.

The folks over at Newsarama posted a short interview with Dan Didio looking forward into 2007 while I was gone for Christmas. It seems something is brewing; 4 comic team spin offs from 52 as a starting point.
I admit, I have always been a huge Marvel fan and been a pickier DC reader. As I catch up this time after my comic book collecting hiatus I find that I still have much the same taste as before. The DC boys just always seem to be much more haphazard with their characters and the continuity of the DC Universe has just always bugged the heck out of me. But who knows? Maybe 52 will do it for me.

Well I am back at it today. I have some reading to do to catch up after the Christmas craziness. Hopefully I will run across some news to pass on or something new to share.

Did anyone catch Stan Lee on NBC’s Identity game-show last night? He is looking great!
If you missed it NBC has the episode online here.
His identity was billed as Spider-Man’s creator. The contestant correctly identified him on her 4th or 5th pick because “Spider-Man is old.” That made him (and me) crack up a bit. Here is hoping the greatest comic creator of all-time keeps on kickin’.
Excelsior!

Just a quick note before I finish my Christmas shopping.
NBC’s Today Show did a 5 minute bit on Archie Comic’s updating of the Riverdale gang.
Earlier this week it was revealed that after 50 years the Riverdale teens were getting a new look beginning with Betty and Veronica Double Digest #151, when artist Steven Butler gives them a modern makeover.
The blog world this week has largely derided the decision, and the Today Show hosts shared this opinion.
Another entry later, as long as Santa cooperates.

Rumors are surfacing on E-Bay and elsewhere that the first issue of Spider-Man: Reign may be getting looked at for a recall by Marvel.
I don’t know how “true” these rumors are, and have not been able to find an official announcement or concern voiced by anyone at Marvel, other than the pane in question was a “mistake.”
For those not in the know, the controversy involves a very dark silhouette of the aged Peter Parker’s “package.” I honestly don’t think I would have noticed, if information about it hadn’t been spread among the comic newsites before it shipped.
If you don’t have this issue, now may be the time to get it. If the recall becomes more than rumor, the original version may become very hard to find. It’s also an awesome first issue leaving me waiting impatiently for #2.

Diamond Distributors released their November ‘06 Comic Book Sales figures on Friday afternoon. I enjoy viewing the sales figures of the titles I collect and like seeing how the independent publishers are doing. If you are into that sort of thing, the site with my favorite way of presenting the chart is The Comic Book Page. The direct link to the sales figures can be found here.
As expected Civil War #5 was the top comic of the month. Four of the five “52” comics released that month were in the top 10. 52 Issue #26 cover brings back that creepy-cool feel of the 50’s and 60’s horror comic lines so popular back then.
I just had to share.

In yesterdays update I wrote about the March ‘07 issue of The Mighty Avengers #1. I speculated on the outcome of the Civil War based upon known information thus far.
The whole thing seemed too easy and after digging a bit deeper I found some chat on the Millarworld.tv forums by a few lucky people who got to read the Civil War #7 script ( I am SURE they had to sign a NDA).
I am happy to report that it seems we ARE indeed in for a huge payoff and “twist.” My favorite line in the post is:
And no one, anywhere I’ve seen people speculate about the ending can be prepared for what’s to come.
Now if only I can control my excitement until the week of January 31st(Civil War #7’s arrival date).
